PARCS installation at Charleston International Airport

IP Parking has successfully installed a future-proof parking system at Charleston International Airport (CHS), the largest and busiest airport in South Carolina (USA). In 2024 alone, CHS welcomed over 6.2 million travelers - a clear sign that smart and efficient parking facilities are key. It is a major hub for both commercial passenger flights and military aviation.

The airport's main goal was to make parking easier and more user-friendly for travelers, with a system that simultaneously optimizes operational processes. With that goal in mind, CHS chose IP Parking to deliver a flexible, reliable and innovative solution.

Strategic installation

Together with installation partner DMV Parking, we managed to complete the entire project in record time - from signing the contract to the first functioning entrance and exit ramp was only two months. Even more impressive: the first parking lot was delivered operational within just three days of arriving on site.

John Robison, Director of Landside Operations at CHS, responded enthusiastically:
"This is the best project and smoothest installation I have experienced in my 38-year career."

To make everything run as quickly and smoothly as possible, a full test environment was created prior to installation. All hardware and software were pre-configured and ready to use upon arrival. Thanks to this plug-and-play approach and the good cooperation with CHS and DMV Parking, the transition went smoothly, with no impact on travelers. The installation was carefully phased outside peak hours, so that CHS could keep its parking facilities fully operational during the upgrade.

"When I'm on site and talking to clients, I always hear how tight and professional everything looks. Everything is really top-notch executed," Robison said.

Future-proof technology

With the new system, CHS now has a scalable and flexible parking solution prepared for future growth, with 16 lanes equipped with IP2 Xperience terminals with 15-inch touchscreens - spread across two parking garages and two lots, providing an intuitive and user-friendly experience.

It also implemented the IP Payment System (IPS) that allows users to pay mobile, without an app. Valuable insights into real-time occupancy, delivered via API integration, enable CHS to optimize parking management and maximize facility utilization.

What makes the system truly special is its flexibility. CHS can easily switch between ticketed, ticketless or even completely free-flow parking - without major modifications. The parking facilities can also operate separately from each other, allowing garages and lots to be configured to suit travelers, staff and other users. This keeps the airport flexible and ready to move with changing needs.

One of CHS's main goals was to simplify parking processes and increase convenience for travelers. And that, according to Robison, has succeeded:

"Our customers rave about how easy the system works. We rarely get calls or requests for help. It's a nice environment to work in."

Lester Mascon, CCO of IP Parking:
"The collaboration with CHS was top-notch. We are proud that we were able to achieve a reliable and future-proof solution in such a short period of time. CHS now has a system that not only meets today's requirements, but is ready for the future."

With this scalable solution, CHS has full control over parking management and the flexibility to grow with developments. This successful installation demonstrates why IP Parking is a global leader in providing smart and reliable airport parking solutions. By combining technology with efficient implementation, IP Parking continues to push the standard in airport parking.
