I have been working in electrical engineering since I was 16 years old. At that time, I worked for an electrical company, which was located in the same building as IP Parking. This is how I first came into contact with the parking world. However, I was still gaining work experience with my employer at the time and I was also following an evening course for supervisory technician (level 4).
After 8 years I finished my studies and it was time for a new challenge. I started working for a specialist in access control, where I came into contact with low-voltage and ICT (software). I found this very interesting and picked it up quickly. I was really enjoying myself until one day Jimmy Smulders, director of IP Parking, approached me to say that he had heard that I had left the electrical company. He knew me from my previous employer and invited me for an interview about working at IP Parking.
I was of course immediately interested because I already knew IP Parking. It felt like "old times." I was asked to help set up new projects, especially in the area of network and software. This was music to my ears. I also found it exciting because I did not have much experience with networking, but one learns by doing! I really feel that during these years at IP Parking I have broadened my knowledge in many areas. I enjoy going to work every day and no day is the same. One day I'm standing in the sun checking a system and the next day I'm working at the office in Deurne preparing a new project.
I am father of two children (ages 3 and 1) and the flexible working hours allow me to combine work and private life. I like to start early and at IP Parking this is no problem. One day I'm already at a project in Groningen at 7:00 am and the next day I'm at the office at 6:00 am. I like to work out and because I start work early I can go to the gym at the end of the afternoon. Then I can get home in time for dinner with my family. This flexibility gives me a lot of freedom. In busy times we work overtime, but it never feels like an obligation. It's something I enjoy doing, also because I can contribute to the planning.
What I also really like is the high quality that IP Parking strives for. The project just has to be delivered well, so that I can do my job with a satisfied feeling. We also get the time for that. Regular company outings are organized and I think this is great! If you want, you can also visit our bar every Friday after work for a drink. This really gives a sense of togetherness. If you have a private challenge, colleagues come to you from all sides to help you solve it. I get a lot of appreciation at IP Parking. This is automatically returned to the work floor when an extra effort is needed.
In short...I feel right at home here and am having a great time!
